That the Parliament congratulates Dr Julie McElroy, who is profoundly deaf and has cerebral palsy, on graduating from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) with a PhD on 12 July 2017; notes that Dr McElroy has completed her PhD in Assistive Technology, which investigated learning experiences of disabled students; understands that, with this research, she hopes to develop a framework that can be used by educational bodies to help them understand issues and interactions involved in the area of assistive technology; believes that, prior to Dr McElroy's research, there was very little work conducted in this academic field; commends her for achieving this groundbreaking research, and notes her excellent academic trajectory, which is marked not only by the completion of a PhD, but also by numerous awards, including the UWS Court Medal for highest achieving student in 2010.
