S5M-02185: Historic United Nations Vote on Nuclear Disarmament

Date Lodged: 28/10/2016

That the Parliament notes what is considered to be an historic vote of 126 nations for, with 38 nations against and 16 nations abstaining at the UN in respect of a ‘legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination’, which is to be negotiated in March 2017, and considers that this could lead to a treaty on nuclear weapons, which are the most powerful of all weapons of mass-destruction, joining chemical and biological weapons in being banned from being manufactured, stored or used by any nation state.
