S4M-07394: 8th General Conference of Mayors for Peace

That the Parliament notes the 8th General Conference of Mayors for Peace being held in Hiroshima; welcomes what it considers the particularly important step by the Japanese Member Cities, 1,330 of the world membership of 5,664 Mayors for Peace being in Japan, to adopt a letter to the Prime Minister of Japan regretting Japan’s non-signature of the humanitarian statement at the Second Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in Geneva and urging Japan to take leadership of a treaty banning nuclear weapons in a nuclear weapons convention, and further welcomes that the letter will be delivered jointly by the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to the Prime Minister of Japan during the 6 to 9 August anniversary period of the 68th year since the dropping of the two nuclear bombs on those cities.
