2018 UN Nuclear Disarmament Conference

On the 1st November the United Nations (UN) set dates and a mandate for a High Level Conference on Nuclear Disarmament. This will take place on May 14-16th 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York. This resolution reminded UK and the other nuclear armed states that they have agreed to hold an international conference on the elimination of nuclear danger, and they have not yet done so.

In Depth News has released an article about this from PNND (Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament), of which I am co-President and have been quoted saying,

"The nuclear-armed States are threatening not only themselves but the whole world with their arsenals on hair-trigger alert and with first-use policies. These weapons, including the ones deployed in Scotland by the UK, make us a target in a nuclear exchange, rather than a force for peace. The UN conference provides an opportunity for the nuclear-armed governments to realise that we all would be safer in a non-nuclear-armed world."
