MSP welcomes rollout of super-fast broadband for Drumchapel

BT announce high-speed fibre broadband investment in Anniesland

BT is to install high-speed internet access in Drumchapel as part of a £2.5billion investment programme across the UK which will benefit 291,000 houses and premises in Scotland.

This upgrade, made available by BT’s local network business, Openreach, is expected to be completed by the end of Spring 2014.

Commenting, MSP for Glasgow Anniesland Bill Kidd said:

“This is excellent news for both businesses and residents in Drumchapel. Access to fibre broadband will improve local connectivity and promote economic growth in areas that otherwise may have fallen behind.

“High speed broadband will make places like the Drumchapel Exchange more attractive to businesses, creating new opportunities for more jobs to be brought to the area.

“Additionally, it will be a great advantage for the new Drumchapel police station that is being constructed in this area.

“This announcement is a result of the community working together to bring about change for the better. I’ve been contacted by a number of diligent constituents and the local community council in relation to this issue, and it is their persistence that has brought this valuable service to the area.”
